While reading about the ‘Gate Combined with Effects Automation’ I really wanted to hear a clip of the example you described, to put what I was reading about in context.

Also, I like the idea of a tips and tricks page in a format and layout similar to http://www.gotoandlearn.com/ where each video is 1-2 min long. The time limit keeps things focused and creates easily digestible chunks of learning.

With regards to the the “Gate Combined with Effects Automation” you can achieve a similar automated delay effect by using a side chained compressor on a send channel rather than using automation, the effect will sound a bit different but you may like it.

To do it basically send the channel you want the delay effect on to a send channel, put the delay on the send channel then follow it with a compressor, set the compressor to work on a sidechain from the channel which you have sent to it and set it to really squash the sound (high ratio, low threshold) and adjust the attack & release to taste.

      Tom,

Thanks for the extremely substantive reply! I’ll probably make a blog post out of it with full credit given to you of course.
