So cool, man. I've done sound for ONE trailer. It was one of the XMen movies. You really appreciate the work of sound designers when you have to build up a scene from scratch. Holy moley...I can't imagine doing an entire film. My hat is permanently off.

Hi James,

That's absolutely right - as long as you explicitly give credit to the rightful owners of the footage, you'll be fine. I also would stick with video that's freely available and avoid copying bits from DVDs. That's why I always go for trailers or other films that I can get the permission for using.

I think that the best possible way to do a reel like this, however, is to find student films, animations, etc. There are plenty of visual artists out there that need sound for their creations!

Hello Nick. I'm really glad you are doing these videos. I really hope you do some more (maybe a real indepth paid one?)

Anyhow, I've wondered to do a sound redux of pre existing videos like this, such as movie trailers... But what are the copyright issues of this if you wanted to use this in a portfolio? Do you or anyone else know of these sort of implications? I'm presuming that as long as the credits are in the right place and that it isn't for commercial use, it's all ok to put this sort of work in a public porfolio?
