I've done sound for ONE trailer. It was one of the XMen movies. You really appreciate the work of sound designers when you have to build up a scene from scratch. I also would stick with video that's freely available and avoid copying bits from DVDs. That's why I always go for trailers or other films that I can get the permission for using. I think that the best possible way to do a reel like this, however, is to find student films, animations, etc. There are plenty of visual artists out there that need sound for their creations! Anyhow, I've wondered to do a sound redux of pre existing videos like this, such as movie trailers... But what are the copyright issues of this if you wanted to use this in a portfolio?
